Loving on “The Hating Game”

Overall rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Sub-genre: Contemporary

Trope: Enemies to lovers/ office romance

Let me start off by saying there is a reason why this book is such a huge hit and why it’s being made into a movie. Simply put: it is THAT good. A modern day Pride and Prejudice with sizzling chemistry set in the competitive world of Executive Administration!

I loved the characters, their perks, and their little mind games. I was constantly alternating between laughing out loud and fanning myself. Josh did a good job channeling Mr. Darcy with his graduate degree and brooding “thou shalt not touch or get close” attitude. Lucy, on the other hand, was the perky, grew-up-on-a-strawberry-farm, friendly gal whom everyone adored. She was also a feisty 5-foot nothing fashionista who had some serious issues with being petite. Both characters were deep, with lots of hang-ups, ambitions and secret desires.

It’s their fierce competitiveness and sheer determination not to let the other win that catapults their relationship from rivals to lovers. And I was super pleased that Ms. Thorne opted to write hot sex scenes. If this was a clean romance, I think I might’ve expired from frustration.

Hands-down one of the best enemies-to-lovers book I’ve read in ages…even if it did take me 4 years after its publication date to read it. I highly recommend it!
